Demon Slayer Tanjiro Cardigan
One Tanjiro-themed garment is simply not enough. For Christmas 2021, I modified the Balloon Cardigan knitting pattern by PetiteKnit to create this cardigan for Taira. This was my second or third knitting project after picking up the hobby earlier in the year. Below are some notes copied from Ravelry:
YARN THOUGHTS:
Nightshades is next to skin soft. The color is quite subtle and can shift between black and navy depending on the light. Springy and comfortable to knit with.
Cotton Comfort is a bit heavier and less elastic. The heathered texture is very pretty. Also next to skin soft and has a nice slight drape after blocking.
No observations on pilling since this was knit for someone else.
Initially swatched with Drops Karisma, which is much cheaper than these two, but also so ugly that I want to burn all the balls I bought for this project.
MODIFYING KNITTING PATTERN INSTRUCTIONS FOR COLORWORK:
* raglan stitch changed to two stitches to allow for increases and color changes
* distribution of stitches slightly adjusted so that sleeve and back color blocks would be symmetrical
- color block width = total stitch count of body without button bands divided by 10
- (number of stitches) location
- LC = light color, DC = dark color
- (1) LC front, (1) LC raglan, (1) DC raglan, (X) DC sleeve, (X) LC sleeve, (1) LC raglan, (1) DC raglan, (X) DC back, (block width) LC back, (X) DC back, (1) DC raglan, (1) LC raglan, (X) LC sleeve, (X) DC sleeve, (1) DC raglan, (1) LC raglan, (1) LC front
- once the front stitches have increased through neck shaping to the same width as half the sleeve (X+increases), begin making neck shaping increases in the other color
* followed the pattern until close to sleeve separation; split when the number of stitches in either color under the arm + cast on stitches = width of block
* when picking up stitches for the sleeve, cast on extra edge stitches for later seaming so that sleeves can be knit flat
OTHER MISC NOTES:
* knit collar/button band with twisted rib; cuffs and hem knit in normal 1x1 rib as instructed
* picked up stitches on collar in darker color with size 4 needles to minimize any gaping
*Textured steel buttons purchased from M&J Trimming
